Why 24 men? Because I couldn't find any Q's or V's; it's harder than you think...
The Last Letter Team
c - Yogi Berra (taking him over Mike Piazza; my list)
- Carlton Fisk (yeah, I said he's my back-up)
1b - Lou Gehrig (Cy Young and Curt Schilling never had a chance)
- Fred McGriff (Over Terry McGriff)
2b - Rod Carew (over Fritz Buelow; tough choice, but I already had my catchers)
- Don Mattingly (also can back-up 3b; Over Ken Griffey, Dale Murphy)
ss - Alex Rodriguez(Over Manny Ramirez for just a few million more)
- Lou Boudreau (easy over Hideki Irabu)
3b - Mike Schmidt (over Yount, Brett and Puckett - All guys that played for the same team their whole career)
OF - Ichiro Suzuki (over Gary Gaetti)
- Dave Winfield (not alot of competition at D)
- Stan Musial (even though I like Willie Stargell better)
- Vladimir Guerrero (over Canseco, Palmeiro; Phil Niekro would be good)
- Johnny Welij (he's the only J)
SP - Sandy Koufax - (over Jimmie Foxx)
- Roger Clemens - (There was Mays, Bonds, Ted Williams, but I needed a starter)
- Bob Gibson (barely over Hank Aaron)
- Bob Feller (edging Honus Wagner, but I need quality starters) - Babe Ruth (over Bench; on his 'off-days' he can DH since my team plays with the DH)
RP - Dave Stieb (Ty Cobb was a prick, Rusty Staub was a former Met)
- Ken Kravic (Over Tom Yewcic, who played 1 game, Dale Mohorcic didn't fit my team's mental profile)
- Dave Wickersham (over William Van Landingham)
- Nate Bump (over Max "Camera Eye" Bishop and Wally Pipp)
Closer - Goose Gossage - because I like him (more than Mickey Mantle)
There ya go, I agonized over all of your lists before doing this one... anyone find players with last names ending in 'Q' or 'V' well, then you looked harder than me!
