Bruce Arena named his squad today for the 2006 World Cup. Claudio Reyna will play in his fourth World Cup for the U.S., and playing in their third will be Kasey Keller, Frankie Hejduk, and Eddie Pope. The roster has a nice mixture of pros playing in MLS and abroad, with 11 playing domestically and 12 in Europe.

Update: Frankie Hejduk is out and Chris Albright is now on the roster for the U.S. Hejduk has a torn ACL.

No Freddy Phenom? Is he eligible to play for the US?

Freddy Adu is American, but he hasn't developed enough. He's only 16 at this point, and isn't an impact player yet.

lest we forget, some Brazilian kid named Pele won the World Cup at the age of 17...I'm a little disappointed Freddy didn't even make the alternate list, from a professional and PR standpoint - how much more attention would the MNT get if Adu had even an outside chance of making the WC squad? at least he'll be 20 - and most likely euro-seasoned - for WC 2010...looks like we'll need some forwards then.

I hope the MLS is a good standard, becuase your players in English Leagues aren't that good. Howard's your number 2 goalie at best. Reyna, Bocanegra and McBride are good. The only problem with the USA is that they haven't enough players playing against the best players, i.e. playing in Europe. Also, I fear that the FIFA World Rankings overrate America. They should get out of their group, but they will struggle to get beyond that (I must admit, however, I have not seen their draw).
