Starting USC free safety Josh Pinkard has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the Trojans' 50-14 opening victory over Arkansas and won't play again this season.
Pinkard, junior from Oxnard, California, said he heard his right knee "crack" while covering a punt against the Razorbacks last Saturday night. An MRI on Tuesday revealed the torn ligament.
Freshmen Antwine Perez and Garrett Green are listed behind Pinkard on the USC depth chart and will likely be his replacement. Other possible replacements include, freshman Taylor Mays, listed as the backup at strong safety, and senior Dallas Sartz, who actually starts at linebacker.
Pinkard does have the option of applying for a medical redshirt for this season.
