UFC Fight Night 10 from the Armchair

When MMA (mixed martial arts) was first mentioned on this website, it was in passing. Here, I hope to give it the full immersion with my review of UFC Fight Night 10's televised bouts, which were brought to MMA fans in the US and Canada on SpikeTV.

Drew McFedries vs. Jordan Radev (Welterweight)

McFedries made Radev's UFC debut a very brief one, as he immediately sent Radev downhill with a flurry of quick strikes, and capped it off with an uppercut 30 seconds into round one. This was McFedries' second win in UFC competition.

Chad Reiner vs. Anthony Johnson

The title of "shortest match of the evening" goes to this welterweight bout, which ended when "Rumble" Johnson caught the "Grinder" with a devastating right hook thirteen seconds into the first round.

Jon Fitch vs. Roan Carneiro (Welterweight)

While the Brazilian Carneiro owned the first round (despite an escape from an Anaconda choke three minutes in), Fitch managed to mount a rally early in round two and force Carneiro into a rear naked choke submission over a minute therein. Fitch remains undefeated in the UFC with a 6-0 record and a thirteen-match overall winning streak.

Thiago Tavares vs. Jason Black (Lightweight)

Another undefeated fighter was Carneiro's fellow countryman Thiago Tavares, while Jason Black was another fighter making his UFC debut. Black got out of Tavares' submission three minutes into round one, only to have Tavares force him back down to the floor. That move was a testament to Tavares' dominant ground game. It wound up contributing to Tavares forcing Black to tap out from a triangle choke almost three minutes into the second round. Tavares upped his record to 16-0 professionally, while, like welterweight McFedries, got his second win in the UFC.

Spencer Fisher vs. Sam Stout (Lightweight)

The main event was by far the most exciting match of the evening, and both fighters showed great intensity right out of the gate. While Stout's "Hands of Stone" cut Fisher up pretty good in round one, Fisher avenged his March 2006 loss by unanimous decision in the only fight on the TV card to go the distance.

Here's hoping MMA gets even more DAP on this site...

MMA is good, but somewhat overrated.
