UCLA upsets USC 13-9

11
Vote

The UCLA Bruins have just upset the No. 2USC Trojans 13-9, ending USC's title hopes. It is likely that the Michigan Wolverines will meet the Ohio St. Buckeyes in the BCS Title Game in Glendale, Ariz. However, after defeating Arkansas in the SEC title game, Florida could also appear in the National Title Game.

No! Michigan had their chance. They lost. If they beat Ohio State, what does that prove? You can't give Michigan a National Championship for splitting the season series with OSU.

I'm not sure if this is good for the BCS (there's suddenly one less 1-loss team to complain about getting screwed over) or bad (that OSU-Michigan rematch sure looms large). So I wasn't really sure who to root for in this one. (That's right, in these Pac-10 games I base my allegiances upon which team would screw up the BCS worse if they win)

Florida??? They BARELY beat Tennessee AND South Carolina by 1 point each. Does this one sound like they deserve a shot? You would put Florida in the #2 spot - a team that lost to Auburn? While Michigan's only loss was to the undisputed #1 team in the country at the time??? While it may not be the best system in the world, until something else better comes along, the BCS should put Michigan back at #2 to face OSU for the championship while Florida goes up to #3 and USC falls way down to #4... USC/Florida play for the Rose Bowl...

I think that either Michigan or Florida would be a fine choice. Take your pick.

I'd like to see Michigan play Florida in one "national semifinal", and OSU play USC (or whoever will be fourth after this weekend -- Louisville maybe?) in another, then have the two winners face off. I'd rather see an OSU-Florida title game (because we've already seen OSU-Michigan), but I don't see how you choose definitively between Florida and Michigan until they actually play each other. Sure, we can say that Michigan "doesn't deserve" another crack at OSU, but that's not really evidence that they're not the #2 team in the country. Florida may in fact be #2, but we won't know for sure unless they decide it on the field, in a Final Four-type playoff.

Louisville and Wisconsin are gonna get screwed. The top 4 is going to be USC, Michigan, Florida, and then either Wisconsin or LSU. All four get automatic bids by rule, except Wisconsin, who is barred by a different rule (no more than 2/conference). Of the four at-larges, three are automatically in: LSU, Michigan, and Boise State. While Louisville should go over ND, it ain't gonna happen.

Ya, I agree even with Louisville's weak schedule they beat more quality teams than Notre Dame. I think they are better than the Irish too. USC's loss today makes Notre Dame look even worse. However, they travel well and will obviously land a BCS Bowl bid. They will get creamed in the bowl game though.

1) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I HATE USC! I LOVE THAT THEY'RE NOT IN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

2) I don't want to see a Michigan/Ohio State rematch. It will take away from the magic of the regular season rivalry. Plus, if Michigan would happen to win, the two school would probably have to share the National Championship. Also, if Ohio State's defense would actually decide to come to the game this time, OSU would blow Michigan out.

3) I think OSU/Florida could be a good game. I think Wisconsin/OSU would be a better game and that the Badgers deserve it the most. Louisville would just be dumb.

Wisconsin/OSU over a UofM/OSU game? That seems really fair considering Michigan beat Wisconsin...

The things thats bothering me reading all these comments is that people are just complaining about a rematch rather than asking who is the the true number 2 team. If you're gonna vote for Florida at number 2, vote for them because you beleive they're better than Michigan for the number 2 spot. Don't vote for Florida if you just don't wanna see rematch.

The bottom line is that Michigan is not better than Ohio State since they lost to the Buckeyes. Ohio State proved that they are a superior team. They shouldn't have to repeat the performance against the same team. Now it is Florida's turn to try and beat the #1 team in the nation.

Ah, but the question is not whether or not Michigan is better than OSU -- it's whether or not Michigan is better than Florida. It's #1 vs. #2, not "Number One vs. Some Team That Might Not Actually Be Number Two, But At Least They Haven't Already Lost To Number One". In fact, why can't Michigan and Florida just play each other after finals are over, for the right to play OSU in the championship game? Who wouldn't want to see that?

I agree w/ that. If the NCAA isn't gonna make a playoff, they should at least have a game like this if necesarry to help decide these types of situations.

Florida is definitely #2. Michigan and Florida both lost one game. While Michigan's loss was to a higher ranked team than Florida's loss, Florida's wins were against harder opponents than Michigan's. So what counts more, multiple wins with a tougher schedule or the one loss to a lesser ranked (but still top ten) opponent? It appeared that everyone was accepting USC's position as #2(until saturday) even though they lost to a much weaker Oregon team. Strength of schedule and multiple wins makes Florida a definite #2
