Two Recent NFL Notes

-- I stumbled upon this story about one minute ago: Apparently over the weekend, a player who you've probably never heard of before, Fred Evans of the Miami Dolphins, was "arrested early Saturday morning, and tasers were used to subdue him, after an alleged argument with a Miami Beach taxi driver." I could be wrong here, but I think the reason for his tasering may have been as follows: "According to the report, Evans bit one officer on the wrist..." It might not be such a good idea to be out so late if the possibility of biting a cop may arise in the process -- just my two cents. Even Bill Romanowski has never bitten a cop before... I think...

-- With that last note, I fell into the trap of discussing the disturbing trend of NFL players being arrested and following the disappointing behavior of guys like Pacman Jones, Chris Henry, and Tank Johnson. In better news, Jon Kitna recently predicted that the Detroit Lions will win at least 10 games next season. And I'm glad that Kitna did this; his remarks leave an important reminder that NFL players aren't all just clowns who get arrested. They also can make us fans laugh with funny and bizarre predictions that don't really make any sense. Kudos to you, Mr. Kitna.

It's not totally unbelievable. And even if it is, at least he's trying to show some optimism

I never really said it was a bad thing, but that doesn't mean it isn't funny. Come on, it's the Lions...

Its not unfathomable for the Lions to beat the Packers on Vikings twice, They have arizona and tampa, its possible, throw in Oakland and KC (losses to Denver and SD, obviously)...so if they can beat 2 outta Dallas, Washington, NYG and Philly...which i don't think they can...but yeah...its possible they could win 10...its also possible they go 0-16...so that's what possible means...

I'd say 6-10 up to 9-7 is realistic. Especially if their playing the NFC East Champ or a playoff team that's clinched in week 17

Look, I don't have any problems with the Lions, or any other NFL team for that matter. But that's like saying the Raiders can win 10 games. I understand why he said it; I'm not stupid, and I don't have a problem with someone being confident in his team or just being a good teammate. But that doesn't mean it isn't funny when athletes do stuff like this -- some guys just like to talk too much or just make bold and strange predictions to the media.

As far as the actual football aspect, how can the Lions win 10 games? I know they play in the NFC, so what? They aren't better than anyone else in their division, and they don't have a good defense. But I do like what they've done with this offense. Kitna should have a pretty good season throwing to Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams, and they made a smart move getting Tatum Bell to split carries with Kevin Jones in case either one gets hurt.

There are lots of teams with upside. Good luck to the Lions.

The Lions can win 10 games. Millen just had to trade the entire roster to the Colts or Ravens or something for their entire roster. Even then Millen might find a way to screw it up.
