Two More Top 5 Teams Go Down

On Thursday, the #2 team in the Nation, the Oregon Ducks, fell to the unranked (and now 5-6 overall), Arizona Wildcats, due mainly in part because of the injury to Heisman Hopeful, Dennis Dixon.  Dixon suffered a twisted knee during the second QTR, at the time Oregon was winning 11-7, but a few short minutes later, found themselves down 17-11, and the Wildcats never looked back as they cruised to an easy 34-24 win.  Dixon was 5 for 8, for 62 Passing Yards, and 1 INT (2 rush attempts, for 34 yards, and 1 TD on the ground) when he left the game.  Oregon's backup QB, the Senior Brady Leaf, went 22 for 46, for 163 yards, and 2 INT's, with 7 Rushing Attempts for -16 yards, as the Ducks suffered their 2nd loss on the year, and will most likely be out of the Top 10.  This upset shocked me, but I really didn't think they could come away with the win after Dixon went down, this game went along with this year's theme, which is Upsets, Upsets, and MORE Upsets.

Number 4 Oklahoma losses again (9-2), as unranked Texas Tech poured it on them, TTU lead 27-10 at the half, and looked like they could walk away with an easy win.  But, there's a reason Oklahoma is the fourth-best team in the Nation.  OU came back after Graham Harrell, TT's QB, lead them down the field in the 3rd QTR, and Freshman RB, Aaron Crawford capped off the scoring drive with a 3-yard run, and the Red Raiders had a 34-10 lead.  But, Oklahoma wasn't ready to just give up.  With Freshman Phenom, Sam Bradford, not at QB (left early with injury), it didn't look like OU had a shot.  But, backup QB, Joey Halzle, lead the Sooners to three unanswered TD's (Garrett Hartley 33-Yard TD run in 3rd, 65-yard pass to Manuel Johnson in 4th, and another TD pass to Maneul Johnson from 9-yards out with 31 seconds left), but that wasn't enough, as the Sooners ran out of time, and fell just 1 TD short of a tie with the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Boston College (#17), completed another comeback of the Number 15 Clemson Tigers in a 20-17 win last night.  With 5:28 left in the game, and Clemson down 13-10, the Tigers looked to Junior QB, Cullen Harper, as Harper ran it in from 4-yards out, and Clemson took a 17-13 lead.  But, Heisman Candidate, Matt Ryan, was determined to beat out the home crowd, and he drove down the field in 8 plays for 71 yards, and capped off the three minute, 36 second drive with a 43-yard passing TD to wideout Rich Gunnell.  Clemson had just 1:46 seconds to get three points, and it looked like they would send it to OT when Clemson had the ball on the BC 30-yard line on a 3rd down with under :10 to go.  Instead of going for a 47-Yard FG, they decided to go for more yards, and on 3rd down, Harper was sacked by Roderick Rollins for a 7-yard loss.  Clemson used their final TO with :05 remaining, and lined up for what would be a career-high, 54-yard FG attempt for Junior Punter/Kicker Mark Buchholz.  The FG was several yards shy of the crossbar, the :05 seconds had ex[ired, and the BC Eagles had completed another comeback to snap their 2-game losing streak.

So, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Clemson will all fall in the Top 25 Poll, and we will likely see the undefeated, number 3 Kansas (11-0), at number 2 this coming week, and LSU will remain the number 1 seed in the Nation.  We will see the seventh different number 2 seed this week when Kansas moves up there.  LSU (two different times), USC, Cal, USF, BC, Oregon, and now Kansas have all been number 2 this year, but I think Kansas will remain the number 2 seed the rest of the year, and lose to LSU in the BCS championship.

Would've been Oklahoma, but they screwed that up.

I would say that it would be Missouri, if they beat Kansas. That sounds really funny, Missouri in the BCS Championship? But, that's how screwed up this year has been. So, it'll be either Missouri, or possibly OSU, but I am not sure they can get from 7th to 2nd that quick, so they probably won't get it. So, the answer to your question is Missouri, since they will most likely be 3rd since the number 2, and 4 seeds lost this week.

If Mizzou can beat Kansas and Oklahoma, it is a coin flip between them and West Virginia. Oklahoma screwed things up big time. Their loss makes the Big-12 Title game not be as meaningful a win as it would have been, heck they may not even be there! It would be hard to ignore an undefeated big 12 champ but it could happen. I really don't think that either Kansas or Missouri will win the big-12 title game so things will get cleaner by getting messier.  ;)

What about Arizona State? They only have one win against the top 25 (Cal), but their only was was Oregon and they still have a game coming up against USC. They win that one and they seem very legit to me.

This Oklahoma loss was huge for Ohio St and West Virginia. Now each team is an LSU loss away from playing for the title. Looking at how the upsets have been, I'd be thankful if I were a Buckeye fan because they cannot lose and screw things up further.  ;) There is a lot of football left to be played and it will all be meaningful. Thank goodness there's no playoff to screw up these next few weeks by making them meaningless. The tournament is happening now! Don't be blinded by the hate. Oklahoma lost to Texas Tech and were ELIMINATED from the tournament. Just like BC's loss to Maryland, or Oregon's loss to Arizona, or South Florida's loss to Cincinnati. All were tournament upsets. 2 losses and you are done, unless there are not enough good 0/1 loss teams. Then someone gets a 3rd chance.

Looks like the BCS is going to take another hit this year on who plays and who does not play for the NC, they are too many good teams this year to deffinately say who is better than who... We need a deffinitive playoff system or this is going to continue to happen.

They deffinitely need to have a bracket like March Madness, that would be alot better than the stupid BCS.

The Kansas/Missouri winner is gonna be sitting pretty. Now that the Sooners have lost and Sam Bradford is injured, their Big 12 Championship game is looking a little less daunting. Meanwhile, LSU better hope that Georgia doesn't make it to the SEC Championship -- only happens if Tennessee loses @ Kentucky next week -- because you would be hard pressed to find a team that is playing better than Mark Richt's club over the last several weeks.
