The Houston Astros designated Third Basemen Morgan Ensberg for assignment Sunday. This means that the Astros have to trade Ensberg within ten days. The Astros had to do something for newly acquired Third Basemen Ty Wigginton.
Although Ensberg was struggling, he has shown throughout his career that he can be a solid Third Basemen in the Majors.
Now the question is, what team is the right fit for Ensberg.
The Answer is the Minnesota Twins. The Twins have been known to not go out and do mega trades for high cost players. Instead they usaully find guys who are cheap yet still can produce. Ensberg is the perfect example of that.
A few years ago, the Twins picked up Brent Boone, after he was designated for assignment. Although Boone didn't pan out well for the Twins, I still think to this day that it was a good move, because it barely cost the Twins anything, and there was a decent chance that Boone could have been a productive hitter.
Ensberg like Boone, is in that same boat. The Twins have been struggling at getting production from third base. Nick Punto, the Twins regular Third Basemen is batting in the low .200s and just simply isn't getting it done.
So, the most logical thing for the Twins to do is to try and acquire Morgan Ensberg. This would show the fans, that after trading Castillo, the Twins are still trying to better their team for this season, and make the playoffs. Ensberg would be of little cost, and if didn't all work out the Twins would not have lost much.
So, Terry Ryan, what are you waiting for?
