Turnover Ratio

Turnover Ratio is an estimate of the number of turnovers that a player commits per 100 possessions consumed. Turnover Ratio provides a rough assessment of ballhandling skill, and is a better metric than Turnovers/G or Turnovers/40 Min. because it doesn't punish players for committing turnovers when they use a lot of possessions. In practice, stand-still shooters usually lead the league, though, because they never have a chance to turn the ball over -- they simply catch, and shoot. Also note that for Turnover Ratio, it is better to have a lower number. The formula for Turnover Ratio is:

ToR = 100 * (TO / (FGA + 0.44*FTA + AST + TO))
