Tuesdays with Romo: INSERT FOLK PUN HERE

by Oh No Romo

Let me start this recap out by saying, Wow! This is a definite nomination for the Monday Night Game of the Year. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills, 25-24.

Nick Folk won the game for the Cowboys on a 53-yard field goal. What made it amazing was the fact that he had to kick it twice (Dick Jauron called a timeout for the first attempt).

Yes, Tony Romo did throw five interceptions, but he still led his team back when they needed him. The Cowboys were down eight points, late in the game.

Patrick Crayton caught a 4-yard touchdown pass, with 20 seconds left. After recovering an onside kick. The Cowboys got close enough for Folk to be the hero (That's a very popular term right now).

This was a great game. The Bills did the best they could. They forced six turnovers, but no offensive touchdowns. Terrence McGee ran back a touchdown that went 103-yards. George Wilson and Chris Kelsay both returned an interception for a touchdown.

ROMO ALERT: 309 yards, five interceptions and two touchdown passes.

Monday Night Player of the Game: Nick Folk- This guy got the game winner. He kicked it and it went through the up-rights. Congratulations!

See ya

That game was insane. I loved every minute of it. I didn't appreciate the ending fully, though, as I wanted Dallas to lose for my suicide pool. Oh well.

I can not believe this happened... the Bills didn't make enough plays to win? How many more plays could they have made? The Cowboys are just that much better than most other teams right now...

If you can justify that the Cowboys are better than most other teams, when they turn the ball over half a dozen times, Terrell Owens has three catches, and the running game is stifled, then more power to you.

Buffalo dominated the majority of the game...they flustered Romo, and the only thing that saved Dallas was that the defense wore down late after being on the field for almost the entire third quarter. Let's face it...Buffalo was playing their 3rd free safety and 5th outside linebacker of the season...they were TEN point underdogs, and they gave Dallas more than they wanted...

Dallas escaped, they did not prove anything to me.

While I agree that Dallas escaped and that Dallas didn't show their dominance, Buffalo did NOT dominate the majority of the game. Dallas outgained them 385 to 229. Idiot commentators were comparing Marshawn Lynch to Thurman Thomas, even though he had just 66 yards on 20 carries. Even more stupidly, they compared Trent Edwards to Jim Kelly, despite the fact that his good completion percentage (23-for-31) amounted to just 176 yards and ZERO touchdowns. Despite Romo's problems, he still averaged 1.4 more yards per pass than Edwards. Oh, and Dallas dominated on third down conversions, going 9-of-15 to Buffalo's pathetic 3-of-13.

How can you look at those numbers and think Buffalo dominated most of the game. They didn't. True, they let one slip away. But never, at any point, was Buffalo dominating this game. They merely took advantage of a handful of Dallas mistakes.

And I wouldn't exactly call the running game stifled. The Cowboys got just 76 yards, but that's because they passed the ball 50 times. They averaged 3.5 yards per carry. Not great, but not exactly stifled, either. And they only gave Barber the ball 8 times, even though he's averaging 6 yards per carry on the season. Believe me, the stifling of the running game had much more to do with Dallas' play selection than Buffalo's defense.

I agree with Silencer. Until they can actually win a game agaisnt a GOOD team, they are just another lucky team

They beat up on 3-2 New York. But you didn't mean that they need to beat a good team, you meant that they need to beat a GREAT team. One of the league's two elite teams. That way, you can come back when the Cowboys lose to New England and say that, even though they're 5-1 and are second in the league in scoring, they've just been a lucky team all along. Look, I'm not trying to crown them or anything, but you can't honestly have watched them demolish their previous opponents and think they've just been lucky this whole time.

They haven't really beaten anybody... but I open this question... How many teams are there in the NFC to beat?

I agree that they haven't "really" beaten anyone. I also agree that there's not really anyone to beat in the NFC. I'm just trying to figure out how you say that a team that has defeated its opponents by an average of 16 points has been lucky. This is the first game they haven't won by double digits, and they'll only get better now that Terrance Newman and Greg Ellis are back. The Cowboys might not be great, but they're not "just lucky," either.

I didn't say they were lucky (except for Monday night... any team in Dallas place at the end of the game would have been lucky to win)...

76 yards against a defense that has been mauled for the past year and a half by opposing ground games is a pittance. Jones and Barber went nowhere on the majority of their carries.

Here we go with the "let's call the season and anoint the Cowboys the NFC Champs" again...we saw this in the 90s. Yes, they are 5-0...they beat the Giants...whoo. Look at the other three teams they beat...Miami (0-5), St. Louis (0-5) and Chicago (2-3). Add those records up with Buffalo's and the five teams they faced are a combined 6-19, or a .240 winning percentage.

Considering Dallas was averaging 152.5 yards per game on the ground coming into Buffalo, I would say getting half of that total means they were shut down, whether you pass 50 times or 5. Romo was still averaging over 30 pass attempts per game coming in, so it is not as if they were playing the three yards and a cloud of dust mentality on offense. They threw to try and take advantage of a beat up defense.

You said: "Here we go with the "let's call the season and anoint the Cowboys the NFC Champs"".

I said: "Look, I'm not trying to crown them or anything,"

Nobody here is trying to crown them. In fact, I went out of my way to say that I'm not. So, cool your jets on calling people out.

Secondly, I find your absurdly simplistic analysis of their running game hilarious. You don't care how many times they passed the ball? So, if they passed 60 times, and only ran 5, you wouldn't have to admit that 76 yards is still a good rushing effort? You can't be serious. Yeah, Romo was averaging over 30 attempts per game. 30.25 to be exact. And in this game he passed for 50. Almost a full 20 more than his season average. Because of that, Dallas had nine fewer rushes than their season average. The biggest difference was Barber, who got 6.5 fewer carries than his season average. And stats show that if he gets the carries, he'll break a long one. His longest rushes in the previous four games were 19, 40, 54 and 23. He never got the chance to break a long one because he only got 8 carries. Now, I'll admit that Dallas's dropoff from 4.9 yards per carry in the previous 4 to 3.5 in this is significant. However, like I said, I don't think you can credit the Bills defense with shutting down the run when stats show that the Cowboys ABANDONED the run. Plus, Romo averaged over 10.6 yards per completion. The Bills did NOT dominate the Cowboys at any stage of the game. The Cowboys won because they finally stopped beating THEMSELVES.

I agree Silencer, but that is impressive to overcome 6 turnovers. But even 1 turnover will be nearly impossible to overcome next Sunday night when they host New England.

By the way, huge game for Folk. It's exciting to have a kicker that can actually win games for you. The Cowboys have been KILLED by their kicking game the last couple of years, with Cortez, Vanderjagt, and the rest. Thank goodness for Folk. I don't know where he came from, but I praise the scout that convinced Dallas to get him.

Buffalo's offense didn't do crap in that game. All their touchdowns were through the defense or special teams. Once Dallas stopped kicking themselves in the foot, their superiority started to show. Credit Romo for keeping his cool despite the five interceptions. Those last two drives to get the 9 points to win the game were simply stunning. Buffalo's offense ahd several chances to win the game, but they couldn't do it, and Dallas made ALL the plays down the stretch.
