Tuesday Morning Quarterback - NFL Week 5

Now that the sun has set on Sunday and Monday night football, it's time to take a look back at the picks that I made for this week and see just how badly I really did.

Although NOTHING beats Week 4 predictions. Oy vey.

So let's jump right into it. My picks are in bold; game winners are italicized.

  • Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans (19-22). Hit that one right on the head, although the score was a bit closer than I had imagined. Gotta give Miami props for that.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs (17-7). The sad thing is that in the studio on Friday, I chose Jacksonville to win, and then....I changed my mind. I really ought to go with my first instinct on these things, they're more often than not accurate. Lesson of the day? Don't second-guess.
  • Cleveland Browns at New England Patriots (17-34). Anyone who didn't see that coming has been living under a rock for the past five weeks. I said it before, New England WILL be upset - but Cleveland's not the team to do it (and after all, is anyone even paying attention to THIS Cleveland team when the Indians just upset the Yankees this weekend? Sorry, Browns, but the Indians are taking a bit of precedence right now, at least with me!). What worries me about the upcoming week is that now we have two undefeated teams - New England and Dallas - meeting. How's it going to go? Who's getting upset? But that's for a later article.
  • Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints (16-13). So close, New Orleans. So close. *sigh*
  • New York Jets at New York Giants (24-35). Kind of speaks for itself. No great surprise there.
  • Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-21). Can we say, "Shutout?"
  • Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams (34-31). This game went a LOT closer than I thought it would. Which tells me one of two things - either Arizona's a lot better than I gave them credit for, or St. Louis is a lot worse.
  • Atlanta Falcons at Tennessee Titans (13-20). I was right. Last week WAS a fluke. Although I have to give Atlanta some props for making it a fairly close game at least.
  • Detroit Lions at Washington Redskins (3-34). Need I really sing the fight song? Great game for the Skins. I don't think I've seen them look that good in a while.
  • Tampa Bay Bucs at Indianapolis Colts (14-33). Bet you're glad you said Indy now, eh Cunningham?
  • San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos (41-3). THAT is the San Diego team that I saw last year. Too little too late? I suppose we'll have to wait and see. But I'll admit that I was a bit nervous about this game, but San Diego delivered - even WITH Norv Turner.
  • Baltimore Ravens at San Fransisco 49ers (9-7). Maybe this should have been the Vortex of Suck game. 9-7??? Was that score a misprint?!? All defense, all the time! No one brought an offense?
  • Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (27-20). And here I thought Green Bay was my go-to team. It's not the fact that they lost; like I said, even the mighty Patriots will lose eventually. But really, Green Bay. You had to lose to DA BEARS?!?! We're having a SERIOUS talk about this before next week's game against Washington.
  • Dallas Cowboys at Buffalo Bills (25-24). Oh. My. Lord. If you missed the last thirty seconds of this game, I am so sorry. The Bills looked better than I've seen them look in a long time, and Dallas....well, Dallas got extremely lucky. I found myself torn by the outcome of this game - I didn't know whether to be happy that they won (aligning with my pick for the game), or pissed off that they won, because....well....I'm not a Dallas fan. My dad would kick my butt.

All in all, I was 11-3. Much better than last week, and not bad at all, if I can say so myself.

Now maybe if week 6 goes as well as week 5, I can make a credible source of myself.

You might want to change the title of this -- there's already an ESPN column by that name.
