True Yankees Make Playoffs!!

15

by Debs10

The Yankees have clinched a playoff spot!! Finally.

I'm getting really sick of all the people out there who point to their payroll, and try to argue that the Yankees buy their teams. Let me point to Cano, Jeter, Posada, Melky, Mo, Pettite, Joba, Phil, Duncan, most of their other relievers. The Yankees have just as many homegrown kids as any other team. And, while obviously A-Rod has had a great year, isn't he akin to Vlad, Sizemore, and Big Papi, all of whom were not homegrown products of their respective teams.

I'm reveling in the recent playoff lock, as I have each of the past 13 years. I'm reveling in it even more this year because more and more Brian Cashman is supporting my argument that the Yankees do indeed have a homegrown core (let's not forget Bernie in years past).

Contratulations to the Yankees for coming a long way and winning at least the wild card.

I love how Yankee fans are now celebrating Wild Card berths. The Evil Empire has lost its luster. You guys used to be cool and only celebrate WS rings. What happened? Now winning the Wild Card is a big deal?

First, the past 5 years, one wild card team has made it to the world series.

Second, wild card, division champ, it doesnt matter in October. It's a whole new season.

Third, like Pean said, it's smarter for us not to win the division so we don't have to play the Angels who have killed us forever (see my article on that one)

Fourth, we get to play the Indians. We're 6-0 against them this season.

It doesn't matter how you make the playoffs so long as you make it. But "smarter for us not to win the division" ??????????? This makes it sound like you guys are trying not to win games so you can get the Wild Card. Like it was some decision that Torre made and now it's being executed perfectly.

The Yankees are 6-0 against the Indians second-line pitchers like Sowers, Lee, Westbrook and Byrd. They beat Carmona once, and have not faced Sabathia at all since 2004. Go ahead and feel cocky if you want, but the Indians the Yankees face in the playoffs will be very different than the one they played in the regular season.

We're celebrating the accomplishment of coming back from 14 1/2 games, a pretty amazing accomplishment.

Thanks to Romie for recognizing this and congratulating the Yankees, even though he's a Sox fan.

And don't worry, we will be celebrating another ring.

Thanks, Kelsdad, for recognizing me. I hate to jump on the Yankee bandwagon when I say this, but if the Yankees make the World Series, I hope they win it. For three reasons:

1. AL for Life

2. Like the said, the Yankees have come a long way, and it'll definitely be something to remember when we look back at sports history in the future.

3. Just to make some of the stupid Red Sox fans (none here) shut up/cry.

Vlad was an FA deal...

But the sox picked up Ortiz for nothing (they probably saw something and developed him) and the indians acquired sizemore via trade...for Bartolo Colon...and Sizemore was a prospect at the time

BTW...Petitte was acquired via free agency (the yanks let him go...and resigning him means just that)...

On top of that...what about A-Rod, Giambi, Damon, Matsui, Abreu, Clemens, Mussina, Wang, etc...where'd they come from?

Ortiz was released twice by the Twins, the Sox got him for a $25,000 waiver claim. And you know what the first thing they did after they claimed him? They released him! Then they signed him to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training as a non-roster player. Props to him for turning his career around and for the Red Sox for giving him a chance, but all they were looking for at the time was maybe a lefty off the bench, parttimer. They certainly didn't see anything in him and are as surprised as the rest of baseball that he's done what he has.

And on top of that JuT, look at how much most of those players you mentioned and their contracts. How much are they worth? Giambi has about 20 mil or something. AROD has about 25 mil. RIDICULOUS. And I don't even want to start with Roger Clemens. But everyone talks about how they buy all their players. With all the players that Debs10 mentioned, I must say that things changed, for now at least.

Division or Wild Card... doesn't matter. At this point we're rooting to play the Indians and not the Angels in the first round. So, if that meant we should root to win the division, then we would. But, as it is, the wild card works out better. Personally, I root to make the postseason - which the Yanks have now done 13 consecutive years. The wildcard/division argument is worthy of a whole separate article. Whether or not the wild card should exist is a valid argument, but since it does exist, there is really no difference between getting in via the wc or via the division.

Does the title of this article suggest that there was a fake Yankees team for the first part of the year?

Haha, no. It was simply another way to acknowledge those that say the Yankees are made up of people who aren't "true Yankees".. I.E. not homegrown draftpicks or out of the Yankees farm system. Though, you do have a point... they certainly didn't play well in the beginning

True Yankees rise above in the second half of the season. So there was never a "fake" Yankees this year. It played out the way it was supposed to.

Alright, I'll come out and say it...back in July I buried the Yankees, I though they were over...but let me point out that I said they cannot win with their current pitching staff...they made some changes and these young pitchers have saved the Yankee's season

The Yankees suck. They buy their team. They should win every year. The fact that they don't proves that they suck.

How can you say they suck and they buy their team? Are you just not looking at the facts? 1) obviously they don't suck or they wouldn't have made the playoffs the past 13 seasons, so your statement is a bit ignorant. 2) As I mentioned above, they do not buy their team.. Just tonight Phil Hughes is in the 4th inning without allowing a hit, Joba is on fire, and don't get me started on the core of Jeter, Posada, Mo Rivera, etc. I'm with you Silversword, Yanks will take it all this year, like they have 26 times before

Every team buys their players. Unless I'm mistaken, there's no other way to get them legally. The Yankees just spend more on their players than anybody else. More power to them. They also have, thanks in large part to Brian Cashman, reloaded their farm system (with players they "bought" in the draft). The depth of prospects, especially pitching prospects, in the Yankee farm system has contributed greatly to their resurgence in the second half of this season.
