Trading Nightmare

Why do players in each of the Big Four North American major professional sports leagues (MLB, the NBA, the NFL, and the NHL) get traded a lot? It makes it hard to support a team if your favourite players get traded away.

Its because of capitalism. Every person has the right to seek employment and get paid what they deserve. You are right it does make it difficult to create a loyalty with teams, which is why we cheer for laundry and not players.

Agreed. Although it does make that one-team player, like a Tony Gwynn or Derek Jeter all the more special to their fans.

Yeah that makes sense. It all has to do with $$$. I guess it's just part of American culture (not being racist!).

That would make sense, since "American" has nothing to do with race.

Every culture has that money is what drives the world not just sports. Every sporting culture suffers from this. Why did rugby go pro in 1996?(except the USA) Money. Look at the EPL and other Premire soccer leagues across Europe players are constantly shifted and moved for monitary reasons.

I don't think every sport suffers from this - I think sports benefit from it. It encourages players to perform better, knowing they can always be traded or cut, and it makes the off-season more exciting. Yay, capitalism!

And if we want to be technical here, Pnatt should not have included the NFL, which has very few trades. Most of the player movement takes place within free agency.

No big deal, I'm sure it's not possible to follow the sport as in depth in Australia as you can here. Ignorance is only a bad thing if you don't try and get rid of it!

Didnt mean suffer in a bad way, I agree I like the fact that players have the right to move and make money. Just meant that every sport is affected by trades and players looking to find the most money for performing their trade. I know thats what I do at work and would leave my own company if I could find a place to do the same job for more money. I see nothing wrong with that.
