Trade or Not To Trade: Allen Iverson

by user Christof

Within a week, the 2006 NBA Finals will be history. Shortly thereafter, the NBA will hold its annual draft. It is quite possible that the Philadelphia 76ers will trade Allen Iverson before the draft. So the question is this: Should the Sixers trade AI?

It is the opinion of this author that the Sixers SHOULD TRADE Allen Iverson. Actually, the Sixers should have traded AI right after the 2001 NBA Finals, when AI's trade value was at its highest.

Iverson has a world of personal talent, but he is not a team player. Nor does he understand the value of practice. Hence, AI will never win a championship.

The future of the Sixers is not now. They need to rebuild. They have already missed 2 out of the last 3 playoffs. It is time to blow the whole thing up and start from scratch. TO do so, the Sixers must trade Allen Iverson.

I'm not sure getting rid of arguably your best player is the best idea in the world... I like Iversen because he actually bothered to play for the US at the Olympics. Any American basketballer that does that wins credit from me.

What did the US team do that year? I rest my case.

But Iverson had no-one around him of great quality. He was the only player that sounded like he cared; the coach didn't seem to care, and the other players that should have played had no interest. The players he had around him were not quite good enough to win gold.

No, they should trade him. The sixers are not going anywhere with him. They need to rebuild...

They should definitely trade him, the Iverson+Webber experiment is over. The question is where? What teams need a PG/SG?

Could they trade him for an early Round 2 pick? In such a case, anyone that missed the playoffs this year could do with him. He would hold a lot of stock with the New York Knicks of the NBA.

And the trade finally occurred on December 19, 2006.
