Trade Waters are in Low Tide
It's around this time each year that anxious fans start to look forward to the numerous ground-breaking trades that will be made before July 31st. This year though, it will be different. Looking through the list of rumored "available" players, many, if not all, are hurt or are having very inconsistent years.
Mark Teixeira, Al Reyes, Troy Glaus, Miguel Tejada, are all examples of highly sought after players who are paying their dues on the medical wire. Others, such as Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr., Mark Buehrle, Miguel Cabrera, and Dontrelle Willis, are just too hard to move, because of the big contracts and the national fame.
So what can you expect this summer in terms of trades? Most likely a bunch of lower tier deals that are meant to help contending teams. For instance, a contender might trade for a savy veteran for their bench, or a middle reliever to sure up their bullpen.
If a big deal does go through, expect it to be filled with prospects and cash as all of the people on the trading block carry big salaries. The most likely person to be trade out of this group would be Teixeira as he is the most coveted player of the group and has not played for his club since mid-June.
But as always, there will be some shocking deals, exciting pickups, and wild swaps. So just hang in there, and you never know. Sometimes the best move comes from your own organization...
