i don't know if it is just me,or maybe that i have been exposed too long to the John Franco,Armando Benitez,Braden Looper way of closing....or NOT closing baseball games for the New York Metropolitans. As a die-hard NYMets fan i have this eery feeling that if our current closer Billy Wagner cannot get simple saves in meaningless games in late July and early August with a 13 game lead in the division why would he be able to close out say...a game 3 NLDS game? an important game 1 of the NLCS? or even an important game 1 or 2 on the road in the World Series? i may be overreacting but has he not blown more games already than he did last season (5 in '06 so far and only 3 in '05). why should i believe that if the Mets don't completely outscore any playoff opponent with their line-up that if there is a close game in the 9th inning an Wagner comes in he is going to give it away. i think the mets are cursed at the closer position how many times did benitez do it? IN BIG GAMES? Franco had lots of saves for the mets but every outing he always walked the 1st batter he faced and then either struggled with the second batter or just walked him also and then had to battle out of the jam. and Looper...well he may have had 20+ saves for the Marlins but he lost his closer job to Urbina then the mets gave him their closer job which he was ok with in his 1st season but as history shows he struggled with the position there on out. please give me some feedback that would make me think that the mets weakest position right now is not their closer.
