Tour De Farce

In case you don't have the full digital cable package you might not have noticed that there is one of the most historic races in the world taking place. No, I am not talking about the Brickyard 400, I am talking about the Tour De France. Leave it to a French bicycle race to make soccer seem relevant in this country.
When Lance Armstrong was in the midst of his record breaking run the interest in the race was at a historically high level. But of course the French could not leave well enough alone with constant accusations of doping that they never could conclusively prove, which undoubtedly helped to make Lance's decision to retire that much easier, all the while others on the tour were doing the same thing Armstrong was being accused of but were actually being caught and thrown off tour.
With Lance out of the picture the Tour hoped the doping scandals would disappear but along came Floyd Landis. And to make things worse this year one Italian rider was removed from his hotel by police because of an illegal blood transfusion (which just sounds painful), and a Swiss rider removed by his OWN team because he missed pre-race drug testing while partying in Italy. Can a sport get any less credible than that? Hockey fans are laughing about how bicycle racing is handled. There is just one more sad little note I must add to this saga. I can guarantee that people here will spend more time reading this article than they did watching the ENTIRE three week race.
Oh well...bring on the MLS or WNBA.
