Tottenham Hotspur will be forced to start the 2006-7 Premier League campaign without star defender and captain Ledley King.
King has suffered a knee injury which will cause him to miss at least six weeks. As well as the opening month of the Premier League season, King could be ruled out of Spurs' first UEFA Cup tie.
Spurs manager Martin Jol confirmed the news on the club website.
King, a semi-regular for the national side, also missed the World Cup with a broken bone in his foot.
The King injury blow comes a day after Spurs reluctantly agreed terms for the transfer of England midfielder Michael Carrick to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

certainly there's greater challenges this year. for one, spurs will have to play more than 40 matches this season. they only played the minimum - 38 premier league, 1 fa cup, 1 league cup - in 2005-6. the additional matches - and let's hope it's more than 42! - will put a strain on the squad.
on the other hand, the additions of zakora and berbatov have strengthened the side. more needs to be done.
i see a top half finish and a possible uefa cup place again.
