Torre is Open, And The Dodgers Are Talking!

by Kenrick Thomas

The Los Angeles Dodgers are talking to Joe Torre about their managerial job. After missing the playoffs the Dodgers are making a change,
and Torre is the goal.

Grady Little resigned, and that was expected. He wasn't staying, because his days were numbered.

Many believe Grady couldn't succeed, and a change was needed. Torre is open, and the Dodgers are talking.

"Certainly as you look at his resume and what he's done and the market he's done it in, you've certainly got to start there," Ned Colletti said.

Torre's job won't be hard, because the National League is easier. Managing the Dodgers will be difficult, because it's different from the New York Yankees.

The Yankees have more talent, and lots of winning experience. The Dodgers aren't close to the Yankees, and Torre will understand that.

Torre hasn't signed a deal, but the Dodgers are working up a contract.

"I don't categorize anything as close, far," Colletti said. "It's either done or it's not done. We're still trying to learn about each other. There's been some light discussions to try and get a feel. I'm not going to get into where the negotiations are. It's still early in the process in some ways."

Torre and the Dodgers are close to a contract, but nothing has happen.

"We've had some conversations with him (Torre) very recently," Colletti said. "We've got other people we've got under consideration. We're in the process of compiling a list. Once we get a list, we'll go from there. We're taking it day by day."

Not rushing is great, because it won't cause mistakes. Hiring the right guy is important, because players and managers need to work together. The Dodgers aren't rushing, because they'll miss the playoffs again if anything go's wrong.

The Dodgers had success hiring managers in the past, hopefully it'll effect their next decision.

"The Dodgers have a great record on minority hiring throughout the organization," Rich Levin said.

Its been rumored Torre agreed to a contract, but that hasn't happen. The Dodgers are still working on things, but their getting close.

"I've watched stuff in the last 72 hours that I can't believe I'm watching," Colletti said. "I can tell you we do not have an agreement. I've seen more inaccuracy than I can ever remember."

The Dodgers are interested in Torre, because of his knowledge of baseball. He's able to win, and bring championships. "That's certainly a factor," Colletti said. "I believe it will play a role."

Colletti needs a coaching staff as well, but he's focusing on Torre first.

"We don't have a coaching staff in mind, we haven't gotten there," Colletti said. "We've discussed it to some extent. I think whoever the manager is, there will have to be a comfort level on his part and my part."

After his successful times being the New York Yankees manager, Torre should just retire. His legacy is built, and he's considered one of the best. He's had many successful achievements in New York, he should retire.

Managing the Yankees was hard work for Torre, and he broke down towards the end. He wasn't successful in the post-season, and the Yankees had the most talent in the American League. Managing the Dodgers isn't the same, because there's less talent.

The Dodgers line-up isn't as good, and their field needs improvement. Work needs to be done, but don't rule out the Dodgers. Remember, the N.L. is "weak," and Torre doesn't have much to worry about.

It's possible Torre could succeed with the Dodgers, but he'll find it different from the Yankees. He'll need to start over, and get formula with the players. That isn't easy, because Torre's been with the Yankees for twelve seasons. He hasn't done this for a while, it'll take some time.

Torre is old, and that's the reason for his failures. Age has gotten to him, and Torre isn't the same. He doesn't have the excitement, and he lost lots of energy.

He should retire, because his career is set. He's won many World Series championships, and had a great career.

Maybe he'd be too bored if he retired.

Joe Torre? I hope bashes a chair over Tommy Lasorda and he pops!

Torre has always had a love affair with Nomar - and Jeter has always been jealous (and paid by George to keep it hush - how ELSE can you explain his ridiculously overlooked and bloated contract?)

George is gonna die soon and baseball is going to tailspin! We need the kids of today see that there's more to baseball than looking "gay" in a Red Sox jersey...

I hope Mo-Hole goes to the Dodgers! I'd almost have reason to tolerate them! The Dodgers are only above The NY teams, Boston and St Louis! I even like Chicago teams more than LA* teams! (*not including wannabe teams in Orange county)

A poem by Manny Stiles:

Go ahead and see what you look at!

Every so often we can see...

Then Before there was News, it was new.

Later it was so late, it was old news...

Another article lies here, crushed by the breaking of the news.

It's poetic and cruel in it's own existence.

Damn! Maybe it's we, the "fans" that truly break...not the "new"s...

Ned Colletti took us all for chumps the way he pretended he was not going to sign Torre saying Torre was just one of the candidates for the job. Colletti's word is worth as much as the steroids tinged home runs Bonds hit from 2000 to 2007.

Joe Torre is 67.

Bobby Cox is 66.

Lou Piniella is 64.

Tony LaRussa is 63.

My opinion is: If Casey Stengel (one of if not THE greatest manager of all time) can manage at the age of 69 and still be able to win 97 games, why shouldn't Joe Torre not retire?

That would make him "experienced" - and what has experience ever done for anyone?

Age is a state of mind, but experience is a tool youth can't buy. Obviously.
