Jonathan Papelbon had his runless streak stopped tonight at 15.1 IP. He allowed a run on 3 hits when working the 9th of a 6-6 game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox rookie took his first loss of the season as the Jays went on to win 7-6.

A game that was supposed to be a duel between big-name pitchers turned into a back-and-forth game of run scoring. Roy Halladay went 6 innings for the Jays allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and walks. He worked himself out of a couple of other jams as the Red Sox squandered several scoring oppurtunities early on, true to their 2006 form. Josh Beckett lasted only 5 innings for the Sox giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. It was his third dissapointing start in a row as his ERA rose to 4.86 for the year.

The Red Sox managed to get plenty of singles as Manny Ramirez went 3-4 with 2 runs and a walk, Jason Varitek went 2-5 with 2 runs, an RBI, and a K, Mike Lowell went 3-4 with a run and 2 RBI, and Wily Mo Pena went 3-4 with 2 RBI. But the only two extra base hits of the night came from a double by Ramirez and a double by Pena, both in the 6th. The top of the Sox line up went a combined 0-14 as Kevin Youkilis, Mark Loretta, and David Ortiz all struggled.

Shea Hillenbrand was the offensive star of the night for the Jays with the only home run of the game, a 2 run shot off of Keith Foulke. He went 1-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI on the night. Lyle Overbay reached base all five times he came up to bat with a 4-4 night combined with a walk.

Dustin McGowan "earned" the win for the Jays after allowing a run in the 8th and being the pitcher of record when Russ Adams doubled home the winning run in the 9th. B.J. Ryan nailed down his 6th save and remains unscored upon on the year.

Finally, the boy-wonder has fallen! I was really starting to get sick of him. On another happy note, the announcers were talking up Keith Foulke during the game and how well he's bouncing back this year. My favorite part was when they said his change up may be better this year than 2004. And what pitch did Mr. Hillenbrand hit deep into the Boston night? You guessed it, the change up.

I wouldn't call it falling. More of a minor setback. He'll be out there the next time getting the job done. The man will not be stopped! Foulke isn't the same guy he was in '04. He's a hell of a lot better than last year and he's been solid so far this year, but I don't think he's going to be that elite, go-to guy this year.
