Jays Solve Wakefield, Sox Streak Over at 5

W: Tomo Ohka (1-2, 6.23)
L: Tim Wakefield (2-2, 2.08)
S: Jason Frasor (2, 1.93)

The Big Hurt powered the Toronto Blue Jays (9-10, 3rd in AL East) to a 7-4 win against division rivals Boston (12-6, 1st in AL East) this evening at Fenway Park, tying their season series at two games a piece.

The Jays were able to hand a loss to Boston starter Tim Wakefield (L, 2-2), something their were unable to do last week in Toronto. Wakefield gave up a big 2-run home run to Thomas in the 6th inning, and allowed 4 runs (3 ER) overall while striking out five and walking two. The Boston bullpen looked mortal for the first time in a few games, as Joel Pineiro and Mike Timlin combined to give up three more runs after Wakefield left the game. J.C. Romero also pitched 2/3 of an inning.

Tomo Ohka (W, 1-2) got his first win of the year, going 5+ innings and allowing 3 runs (2 ER) while walking 3 and striking out 4. Casey Janssen, Scott Downs, Jeremy Accardo, and Jason Frasor (S, 2) combined to shut Boston down over the last 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits and no runs.

Doug Mirabelli continued his hot start to the year in limited playing time, going 2-3 with a walk, but also committing a throwing error. Dustin Pedroia knocked in his first two runs of the season on a double in the fourth, but Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz went a combined 0-9. Wily Mo Pena went 1-4 with a run scored as Coco Crisp missed his second straight start with a pesky strained oblique muscle.

Aaron Hill added a home run off of Timlin as part of a 4-5 day at the plate, and Adam Lind and Jason Phillips each knocked in a run to account for the rest of the Jays' offense. Vernon Wells had two hits and scored three times. John McDonald went 3-4 and raised his batting average to an even .500 on the year.

Notes... Mike Lowell committed his 6th error on the year, matching his total for the entire season last year already... The Red Sox left 10 men on base... Toronto catcher Gregg Zaun went a tough 0-5 with 2 strikeouts behind Thomas in the five-hole.

Coming Up Next... The second and final game of this quick series is Tuesday, as Roy Halladay (2-0, 2.37) takes on Julian Tavarez (0-1, 6.75).
