In a very low scoring affair, by Canadian Football League standards, the third place Toronto Argonauts went into Canad Inns Stadium to face the second place Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Leaving the stadium with a second pace tie in the Eastern Division.

The Bombers had the early advantage in the game with a two touchdown and one single lead going into the half. Winnipeg's number two pivot, Mike Quinn, got the start, with the ailing Kevin Glenn still on the bench with a knee injury. Quinn connected with Chris Brazzell for a touchdown from two yards out, in the first quarter. This was followed by a five yard touchdown pass to Kwame Cavil in the second. Troy Westwood was able to convert a 46-yard punt into a single with two and a half minutes to go in the half.

The second half was all Toronto. Noel Prefontaine managed the only points in the third quarter. He scored on a 30-yard field goal, shortly into the second half.

The fourth quarter was the Damon Allen and Toronto defense show. Allen threw two touchdowns and the defense intercepted a Quinn pass and a pass from number three quarterback, Brad Banks. Allen completed a pass to R. Jay Soward for a 73-yard touchdown play, at just under three minutes into the fourth quarter. He then completed a 7-yard pass to Arland Bruce III for a second touchdown at the 12:37 mark. Followed by a 2-point conversion pass to Tony Miles.
