Topsy Hartsel (Tully Frederick Hartsel) was born on June 26, 1874 in Polk, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on September 14, 1898 for the Louisville Colonels. In 1901, his rookie year, he hit .335 with 7 home runs and 54 RBI. Hartsel played for the Louisville Colonels, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Orphans and Philadelphia Athletics over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that Topsy Hartsel's best season was 1901, when he stole 41 bases, hit for a .335 average and knocked in 54 runs.
