Topper Rigney (Emory Elmo Rigney) was born on January 7, 1897 in Groveton, Texas. He made his Major League debut on April 12, 1922 for the Detroit Tigers. In 1922, his rookie year, he hit .300 with 2 home runs and 63 RBI. Rigney played for the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and Washington Senators over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that Topper Rigney's best season was 1924, when he hit for a .289 average and knocked in 94 runs.
