Top Ten College Football Conferences

9
Vote

by Marcgobeavs31

1. Southeastern Conference (SEC)

Goal-line: The SEC has too many heavy-hitters to produce an undefeated team. However, the SEC Champion will eventually go on to play in the National Championship game.

SEC Champ- LSU or Florida

2. ACC

Goaline: This one's a toss up. At least 6 or 7 teams have a shot at the ACC Title this year. Although this year's BCS championship game probably won't include an ACC representative; the Atlantic Coast Conference is the only conference in America that can go toe-to-toe with the SEC because of the recruiting battles.

ACC Champ- Virginia Tech

3. Pac Ten

Goal-line: Any Pac-10 team planning a trip to the Rose Bowl this season will have to go through the state of California (literally). The USC Trojans are legitimate contenders to play for the title in New Orleans.

Pac Ten Champ- USC

4. Big Ten

Goal-line: Michigan has the offensive power returning to contend for the Big-10 Title in 2007. The Wolverines can relax while the Buckeyes rebuild this year. Meanwhile, Wisconsin is loaded and could give Michigan a run for their money.

Big 10 Champ- Wisconsin

5. Big East

Goal-line: Critics never expected the Big East Conference to be this competitive with the departure of Miami and Virginia Tech. With the emergence of Rutgers and South Florida; look for the Big East to make BCS noise again in 07.

Big East Champ- West Virginia

6. Big 12

Goal-line: The Longhorns said good-bye to Vince Young in 06', and the Sooners said "so-long" to Adrian Peterson in 07'. There are no significant superstars gracing across Big 12 schools' campuses this season; therefore look for the emergence of a possibly new conference champion.

Big 12 Champ- Texas A&M

7. WAC

Goal-line: Both Ian Johnson (Boise State) and Colt Brennan (Hawaii) will not only battle each other for the Heisman Trophy, but the Western Athletic Conference crown is at stake as well. Look for Brennan to emerge as the Heisman front-runner.

WAC Champ- Hawaii

8. Mountain West

Goal-line: BYU and other Mountain West Conference counterparts will likely disagree, but the conference crown is TCU's to lose.

Mountain West Champ- TCU

9. Conference USA

Goal-line: Both Tulsa and Southern Mississippi have a great opportunity to rack up 7 or 8 conference wins this season. With a smash-mouth offensive attack and veteran group on defense; look for Southern Mississippi be the favorite to return to the league championship game.

Conference USA Champ- Southern Mississippi

10. MAC

Goal-line: Western Michigan has enough players with experience to run the table in the Mid-American Conference.

MAC Champ- Western Michigan

The SEC has also won more National Titles in the BCS era than any other conference. Its clearly the best.

3- UT, LSU, UF

The Big 12 has Oklahoma and Texas Pac 10 has USC twice Big East has Miami once ACC has FSU once

Big 10 has Ohio State one - should be revoked because of Clarett's recruitment.

Someone is drinking some serious ACC Kool-Aid. I'd have the Pac 10 and Big 10 ahead of them. The SEC is in a class by itself.

The PAC=10 is a one trick pony. Granted its a hell of a pony but past USC and the teams get real suspect.

Uh yeah....that's great...could USC run the table against the likes of Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin and Penn State?

Exactly PAC-10 and Big-12 are the two most overrated conferences in the country. Both are extremly top heavy with no middle.

From ESPN's Pat Forde's recent article: "In 2006, 31 QBs nationwide had a pass efficiency rating of 140 or higher. Zero played in the ACC. The top nine returning quarterbacks in the league combined to throw 84 touchdown passes and 87 interceptions. Blech."

I grant you that the SEC was the best conference last year. This will, however, not be the case this year. And the ACC was not the second best football conference last year. The ACC had a down year in 2006, and I don't know if this year is going to be any better.

ACC is the only conference in the country that can play with the SEC from to to bottom. How many other conferences have at least 4 or 5 solid programs?

You know nothing about the Big XII if you believe that A&M is going to win the conference. The Horns will win it easily. SEC is by far the best. I would say you have the Big Ten rated too high. They are the most top heavy conference in my opinion. You may as well be playing MAC opponents instead of Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern, etc.

Minneasota and Purdue are generally pretty decent...and did you ever think that the reason their records look so bad is because they play so many good teams all the time?

Texas A&M has just as much if not more experience as Texas to run the table in the Big 12 this season. The Horns have to come to College Station this season and I'm sure revenge is on their minds, but personally I don't think they're going to get it. We'll find out just how good A&M really is when they travel to Miami next month.

It's foolish to create an argument saying that the SEC is not the best league in the nation simply because the conference champion will have one or perhaps 2 losses. In my opinion, the 2006 SEC runner-up Arkansas was good enough to beat Michigan last year. And from top to bottom, the ACC is better than any conference in the country.

Arkansas lost to Wisconsin last year. Wisconsin finished behind Michigan in the Big 10 standings. You are entitled to your opinion, but what exactly is it based upon?

Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern... plus I wouldn't want to play Illinois or Indiana on a bad week this year... How can the ACC compete with that.
