Top 5 NFL's Best Offensive Trios of All-Time by Marcgobeavs31

11
Vote

by Marcgobeavs31

1. Dallas Cowboys- Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith

Here's Why: With two already Hall of Famers; Emmitt Smith becoming the NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher solidifies the top spot.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers- Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, John Stallworth

Here's Why: Add Hall of Famer Lynn Swann to the equation; and you could make an argument for the top spot.

3. San Francisco 49ers- Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig

Here's Why: Montana and Rice are two of the best to ever play the game. Craig did all the dirty work.

4. San Fransisco 49ers- Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Ricky Watters

Here's Why: Some argue that Young was better than Montana, but it's hard to tell without the Super Bowl rings.

5. Miami Dolphins- Bob Griese, Larry Csonka, Paul Warfield

Here's Why: The only undefeated team in NFL history. Enough said.

Honorable-Mention: Chicago Bears- Jim McMahon, Willie Gault, Walter Payton; Dallas Cowboys- Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson; Los Angeles Raiders- Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, Cliff Branch; Buffalo Bills- Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed; Indianapolis Colts- Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Joseph Addai.

Oh and if Manning, Harrison, and Addai are honorable mention then where do Manning, Harrison, and James fit in? Edge was better in that system overall (sans Super Bowl ring)

The Steelers were awesome because of their defense not offense. I agree with Justin, bump them down.

Fair enough. But if rings are a criteria, the Bills shouldn't be on the list.

oy...you mean Ricky Watters, Walter Payton, Andre Reed right? With the 72 Dolphins, you can't really count Griese, as he missed more than half the year with an injury, and Earl Morrall was the QB. Morrall was 83/150 for 1360 yards, 11 scores and 7 picks in 72, while Griese was 53/97 for 638 yards, 4 TD and 4 picks in six games.

HaHa. I was going to Insan, but I just figured everyone had probably caught on by now. It was adding to the confusion too, so I thought, what the hell?

What about Warner, Faulk and Bruce/Holt? The '99 Rams set the points scored record in their Super Bowl year, and isn't scoring points what offensive excellence is all about?

Sorry can't go with the Rams Trio. Neither Warner, Holt, or Bruce will smell the Hall of Fame. Faulk's the best college football running back in my generation. A first ballot Hall of Famer.

I understand your argument now, particularly re: Warner. However, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Holt's HOF chances. He's got 712 catches at age 31, and as he has caught at least 90 balls for each of the last 5 seasons and doesn't have any injury history to speak of, he's got an excellent chance to get to 1000. That's something only 3 other players have done to this point, which certainly seems HOF-worthy to me.

Notice, most of the players in the Top 5 Trios are all Hall of Famers with the exception of Ricky Watters. Quietly, Watters was just as dangerous; if not more; than Craig was. Yet, he'll never smell the Hall of Fame either.

Torry Holt, 712 catches for 10675 yards and 64 TDs in 9 years. Isaac Bruce, 887 catches for 13376 yards and 80 TDs in his career. Bruce is 7th all time in receiving yards, and in receptions. Holt is 22nd and 25th...yet you want to claim neither of those two will see the Hall? I think you are a bit off in your thinking.

No doubt, both Bruce and Holt are on a Hall of Fame pace, but you can't be in your right mind to think they are both locks for the Hall (right now).

Bruce IS a lock. Only time will tell with Holt, but I bet we will be seeing him in the Hall eventually.

I didn't say that they were stone cold, lead pipe locks right now. My comment was that you were off in your thinking saying that neither of them would even sniff the Hall of Fame. The facts bear out that they have the statistical numbers to go. Of course that could be said for Art Monk, whose to date exclusion from the Hall is nothing more than a farce.

Pittsburgh's too high. Plus as good as those Dolphins were, the kelly/reed/thomas combo might get in ther; probably would have deserved it had they won a super bowl.

I'll agree with the Art Monk argument. Him being left out of the Hall is becoming more legendary than him getting in. It's totally ridiculous. The guy put up big time numbers in a running offense. What is the HOF Committee thinking?
