Tony Calvelli (Anthony T. Calvelli) was born on August 1, 1916 in Stockton, California. After going to high school at Stockton (CA), Calvelli attended the College of San Mateo and Stanford University. Calvelli made his professional debut in the NFL in 1939 with the Detroit Lions. He played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Detroit Lions the entire time. Calvelli also played in the AAFC for 1 year, playing for the San Francisco 49ers the entire time.

Most people believe that 1940 was Tony Calvelli's best year, as he ran back an interception for a touchdown.
