Tony Banfield (James Anthony Banfield) was born on December 18, 1937 in Independence, Kansas. After going to high school at Broken Arrow (OK), Banfield attended Oklahoma State University. Banfield made his professional debut in the AFL in 1960 with the Houston Oilers. He played for the Houston Oilers for his entire 5 year career.

Most people believe that 1961 was Tony Banfield's best year, as he picked off 8 passes.
