Born on October 7, 1919 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Tommy Hughes (Thomas Owen Hughes) played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 5 year career. Hughes broke into the bigs on April 19, 1941 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.45 ERA in 170 innings pitched in 1941, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Tommy Hughes's best season was 1942, when he posted a 3.06 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 77 batters.
