Tommy Helms (Tommy Vann Helms) was born on May 5, 1941 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on September 23, 1964 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1966, his rookie year, he hit .284 with 9 home runs and 49 RBI. Helms played for the Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Tommy Helms's best season was 1966, when he hit for a .284 average.
