Born on December 31, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland, Tommy Byrne (Thomas Joseph Byrne) played for the New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 13 year career. Byrne broke into the bigs on April 27, 1943 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.30 ERA in 133.2 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Tommy Byrne's best season was 1955, when he posted a 3.15 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 76 batters.
