Born on May 7, 1896 in Graham, North Carolina, Tom Zachary (Jonathan Thompson Walton Zachary) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, St. Louis Browns, New York Yankees, Boston Braves, Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 19 year career. Zachary broke into the bigs on July 11, 1918 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 2.92 ERA in 61.2 innings pitched in 1919, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Tom Zachary's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1924, when he posted a 2.75 ERA and won 15 games. However, others believe that it was 1929, when he posted a 2.48 ERA and won 12 games.
