Tom York (Thomas Jefferson York) was born on July 13, 1850 in Brooklyn, New York. He made his Major League debut on May 9, 1871 for the Troy Haymakers. In 1871, his rookie year, he hit .255 with 2 home runs and 23 RBI. York played for the Troy Haymakers, Baltimore Canaries, Philadelphia White Stockings, Hartford Dark Blues, Providence Grays, Cleveland Spiders and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 15 year career.

Most people believe that Tom York's best season was 1879, when he hit for a .310 average and knocked in 50 runs.
