Born on August 9, 1912 in Paris, Illinois, Tom Sunkel (Thomas Jacob Sunkel) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 6 year career. Sunkel broke into the bigs on August 26, 1937 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 4.22 ERA in 85.1 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.
