Born on August 13, 1959 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Tom Niedenfuer (Thomas Edward Niedenfuer) played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 10 year career. Niedenfuer broke into the bigs on August 15, 1981 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and put up a 2.71 ERA in 69.2 innings pitched in 1982, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Tom Niedenfuer's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1985, when he posted a 2.71 ERA, notched 19 saves and struck out 102 batters. However, others believe that it was 1983, when he posted a 1.90 ERA, notched 11 saves and struck out 66 batters.
