Tom Mitchell (Thomas Gordon Mitchell) was born on August 22, 1944 in Newport, Rhode Island. After going to high school at Plymouth (Whitemarsh, PA), Mitchell attended Bucknell University. Mitchell made his professional debut in the AFL in 1966 with the Oakland Raiders. He played in the AFL for 1 year, playing for the Oakland Raiders the entire time. Mitchell also played in the NFL for 10 years, playing for the Baltimore Colts and San Francisco 49ers over the course of his 10 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1972 was Tom Mitchell's best year, as he hauled in 40 receptions and caught 4 TD passes.
