Tom Matte (Thomas Roland Matte) was born on June 14, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Shaw (East Cleveland, OH), Matte attended Ohio State University. Matte made his professional debut in the NFL in 1961 with the Baltimore Colts. He played for the Baltimore Colts for his entire 12 year career.

Most people believe that 1969 was Tom Matte's best year, as he ran for 909 yards, ran in 11 TDs, hauled in 43 receptions and had 513 receiving yards.
