Born on August 2, 1943 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Tom Burgmeier (Thomas Henry Burgmeier) played for the California Angels, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics over the course of his 17 year career. Burgmeier broke into the bigs on April 10, 1968 with the California Angels, and put up a 4.33 ERA in 72.2 innings pitched in 1968, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Tom Burgmeier's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1980, when he posted a 2.00 ERA, notched 24 saves and struck out 54 batters. However, others believe that it was 1971, when he posted a 1.73 ERA and notched 17 saves.
