Tom Brady: Two Minute Man

Not THAT kind of two minute man...his two minute splits...

Through 9 weeks here's how Tom Brady stacks up with 2 minutes left...

  • 5 TDs - That's more TD than he's thrown in the 3rd quarter
  • 75% Completion- To say he's accurate on short passes when the opposing team is expecting it would be an understatement!

Looking at the other top QBs around the league we find...

Peyton Manning...

  • 1 TD - I understand the Colts aren't running up the score, but 1 passing TD in the final two minutes through 9 games?
  • 57.6% Completion- This was really surprising to me because I suspected he'd be pretty close to Brady.

Carson Palmer...

  • 0 TD - Okay this wasn't that surprising to me, but with Housh & Johnson it seems a little odd.
  • 3 INT - Palmer has thrown a bushel of picks this season, but to throw that many with how close the Bengals games have been says an awful lot.
  • 56.1% Completion-  I'm a little surprised here.  Not so much because it's 56.1%, but rather because Payton's numbers aren't that much better.

Tony Romo...

  • 2 TD - Romo's numbers across the board look more in line with what I'd expect from an good NFL quarterback.
  • 67.5% Completion - Again, this looks exactly in line with what I would expect would be pretty normal.
  • 92.0 QB Rating - So the QB Rating pretty much bears out what I was thinking for Romo.

When you look at Brady in the last two minutes, all you can do is think: Are they really running up the score? Because they blow out nearly every team they play, but I am not complaining, I really don't care if they decide to run up the score, it's their decision, and if they want to risk Brady's health, then so be it.

"all you can do is think: Are they really running up the score?" Of course YOU can only think that. It would be impossible to think that "He's a really good quarterback." You're forgetting that the Colts game was close at half-time, as was the Cowboys game. And in the first-half, there is no such thing as running up the score.

I don't think there IS such a thing as running up the score in professional athletics. Each team has a job to play the best game they can. To be fair, if teams really wanted to control this they could go out and hunt for Brady to send a message. His 2 minute stats are pretty out of whack though. I didn't look historically to see numbers for like Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw or Johnny Unitas who all probably had some pretty good 2 minute numbers.

Yeah, that's why I don't like Randall Godfrey anymore, I didn't like how he was complaining about Brady, instead of going out and playing hard, and stopping Brady.
