Born on December 9, 1971 in Hinsdale, Illinois, Todd Van Poppel (Todd Matthew Van Poppel) played for the Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 11 year career. Van Poppel broke into the bigs on September 11, 1991 with the Oakland Athletics, and put up a 5.04 ERA in 84 innings pitched in 1993, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Todd Van Poppel's best season was 2001, when he posted a 2.52 ERA and struck out 90 batters.
