Tired of Virginia Tech Story

I am tired of watching ESPN talk about how this is such an emotional day for Virginia Tech football players. I am in no way saying that what happened was not tragic. I'm just tired of ESPN claiming Virginia Tech is everyone's second favorite team this year and how this is such a momentous day for Virginia Tech players. Honestly, how many of those players even knew who the 32 students shot. I guarantee that you could count it on one hand. It's not that this was in no way a tragic event, it absolutely was. But, why isn't the United State Military Academy everyone's second favorite team? What about the United States Naval Academy or United States Air Force Academy or Virginia Military Academy or Texas A&M? I mean, they only send their students off to fight in wars and die. Why aren't they the second favorite team? ESPN has turned this into something it's not. Those football players aren't going to play any different today than they did any other day. I just think that the Academy's that send every person that graduates into the armed forces should be everyone's second favorite team before a school that had one shooting. I would like to stress I do not think what happened at Virginia Tech was not tragic in any way, I just think the Academy's should be talked about just as much as VT.

But how about drawing similarities to the New Orleans Saints after Katrina? Yes, more people unfortunately perished, but it was a remarkable story with the Saints getting back and playing infront of the Superdome Crowd. Blacksburg breathes football and it's the first time many fans and alumni have been back to Lane Stadium since the shootings, so give them this one game and then put the stuff to rest (I agree with you on that point). But ESPN did a pretty solid job staying away from the VT stuff back when it happened, other than Beamer interviews, but the players were relatively not talked to or brought up in the wake of the Cho shootings.
I know we all get tired of forced tributes, but just give this a different persepective and see what you come up with. I also don't buy the "second favorite team" stuff ... sounds like my brother always waffling his teams when one team wins big or makes the playoffs. "Oh, they're my #2 team." Yeah, that don't fly. Go Hokies.
