Born on March 31, 1950 in La Junta, Colorado, Tippy Martinez (Felix Anthony Martinez) played for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins over the course of his 14 year career. Martinez broke into the bigs on August 9, 1974 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 2.33 ERA in 69.2 innings pitched in 1976, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Tippy Martinez's best season was 1983, when he posted a 2.35 ERA, notched 21 saves and struck out 81 batters.
