Time Running Out for Bernie

9
Vote

I want you to want me.

I need you to need me.

--Cheap Trick

The Yankees have not heard any response back from outfielder Bernie Williams concerning his minor league deal offer. While he is not promised a roster spot, there is an chance that he can make the big club.

Yankee catcher Jorge Posada unsuccessfully tried to contact him the past few days. He feels that if he doesn't show up today, he will likely retire.

Bernie Williams feels hurt and disrespected by what the Yankees did, and I cant blame him. He was an important piece for a long time with that team, and to barely be tossed a bone, now and cast aside will piss anyone off.

I absolutely love Bernie, but I think he should still go out and try to prove everyone wrong...he shouldn't be given a spot just because of what he did in the past

There is a lot to be said for that Pean. I dont think he is asking to just show up and play. But to make him start at the bottom and work to the top is an insult. I mean currently the Yankees have Williams in the same position as the Rangers have Sammy Sosa.

Sammy put himself in his situation, not the Rangers or anyone else. He should be kissing the ground every day in gratitude a team has given him a chance.

T'would be sad if Bernie gets axed by the Yanks. Torre has made it seem though that he wants him on the team.

Time has passed Bernie behind. What needs to be played now is TAPS on Williams' baseball career. Stick a fork in it, for it is D-O-N-E!

Bernie turned down the offer of a Minor League contract two seconds after it was offered to him. He has no intention of reporting to camp on a make good contract.

"Sadder still to watch it die then never to have known it - for the blind who once could see, the bell tolls for thee...." BW has to be one of the classiest players in MLB history, and many people love him for htis alone. However, everyone who plays baseball understands that every day past 35 is borrowed time. It certainly must hurt Bernie, but the Yankees are simply doing what it takes to be the best team, and ultimately baseball is a business. As Tom Hanks said, "there is no crying in baseball".
