Tigers win...... yet again!!

by user Demonboy

The Tigers have now won thier 16th game in June and 52nd overall. Since June 8th, they have only lost an astounding 3 times!!

Tonights game was virutually over by the end of the 3rd inning. Rookie Zach Miner (4-1) pitched 5.1 innings striking out 5 giving up 3 runs. Not one of his best outings but it still worked.

In the 1st inning, Lance Berkman singled in Mike Lamb giving Houston Astros an early 1-0 lead. That was all the motivation the Detroit Tigers needed.

In the 3rd, Brandon Inge doubles to center scoring Chris Shelton. Curtis Granderson then singles scoring Inge. A couple of batters later, Ivan Rodriguez doubles to deep right, Curtis Granderson and Placido Polanco scored. Magglio Ordonez sacrifices to right scoring Rodriguez. Tigers up 5-1.

In the 4th, Granderson strikes again with his 2nd RBI... he singles to right and Brandon Inge comes home for a now 6-1 lead.

In the 5th, 6th & 7th innings, Houston Astros score a run in each of those innings. Lance Berkman, Willy Taveras & Eric Munson getting the RBI's - Munson's was from a solo HR (4th of the year).

Bottom of the 7th, Ivan Rodriguez gets one of those runs back with his 7th HR of the year.

Bottom of the 8th, the run producing Tigers strike again! Marcus Thames doubles scoring Carlos Guillen. Craig Monroe gets into the act by singling in Alex Gomez. Yet again, Granderson gets into it... on an infielder's choice to 2nd, Shelton scores.

Tigers win 10-4.

Do you ever get tired of hearing that the Tigers won? I don't :-) This now makes it a full 2 game lead over that other team - what's thier name again? Oh yeah - the Chicago White Sox :-)

Don't pass the White Sox off, they did win 2 of 3. And this month they did win alot but to who? Tampa Bay,they are .429 - Milwaulkee they are .494 - St Louis, ok they aren't bad but the NL just isn't up to par with AL right now. I'm not saying the Tigers are lucky or bad; I'm just saying their competition hasn't been the toughest this past month. Will they roll out the rest of the season good? I can't say, but I am concerned for them when they keep playing 1st or 2nd placed AL teams. Chicago White Sox were also off today after getting their 9 game win streak broken last night to a very lucky Astro ball team...Very Lucky.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not saying the Tigers don't belong at 1st, but it can go any way between them and the White Sox.

I wasn't passing them off... I was being sarcastic... Did you not see the smiley faces at the end of the recap? Last year after the World Series and even a majority this year, all I heard & was seeing articles about were White Sox this & White Sox that... I'm not denying that the Sox aren't a good team - they are... But after 14 years of crappy Tiger ball - especially the last 3 years, this is a refreshing change...

I wouldn't get too excited. It's still June and the Tigers still have to play the White Sox 13 more times, and their current 1-5 record against them isn't going to cut it.

Also the Sox have won 17 games in June. 15 of those coming against the Tigers, Rangers, Reds, Astros, and Cardinals. The Tigers Cardinals and Rangers are all first place teams, while the Reds and Astros were both over .500. (In the Stros case, BEFORE the White Sox got to em)

What a meldown by Wandy. He looked awesome through the first two innings, then he couldn't find the strike zone, unless he threw the ball right down the middle. But really, it began for the Astros in the first inning. They could have blown the game open early, had Wilson not grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and a 3-1 count. Geez, that guy is killing this team.

By the way, that ejection of Berkman was crap. Just another example of Buckner trying to be the game, instead of officiating the game.

Seriously, did you see the way Buckner was yelling back? Plus you ever notice how when Buckner argues with managers he literally flexes his muscles? Also what was with Tiger announcer Rod Smart saying that "anytime you slam your helmet it's an automatic ejection." I've seen guys do that hundreds of times and not get tossed.

Fornelli, it's actually in the rules, but umpires look the other way on it all the time. Throwing equipment is supposed to be an automatic ejection. But, how many times have you seen batters throw their bats, helmets and/or batting gloves after striking out? Happens all the time. Arguing balls and strikes is also supposed to be an automatic ejection, but how long do they let the batter stand there and argue before they toss him? They look the other way on these things all the time.

Ok. I remember one time in high school I slammed my helmet after I was called out at first on a play I thought I was safe. The ump didn't eject me, but just warned me. Of course after I told that ump to go f#$% himself, THEN he ejected me.

Haha...yeah, that'll do it. See, I think a warning in that instance is enough. In the heat of the game, a player might lose his cool. But in that case, nobody's hurt, nobody's offended. A warning would have been sufficient. If you look at it, it's not even like Berkman said anything to the umpire. He just screamed and slammed his helmet down. I'm just wondering if Phil Garner will get an additional suspension for throwing that chair on the field. Man, I've NEVER seen him that angry.

why does it seem so hard to give credit where credit is due

Who's not giving whom any credit? Nobody has said the Tigers are lucky or don't deserve to be winning. If it was the comment about the TIgers are playing a lot of mediocre teams right now, that's just fact, not somebody's opinion.
