Tiger and the British Open

(Barron) Being a golfer myself, this week brings one of my favorite tournaments of the year, The Open Championship...or The British Open to us Americans. This is truly one of the best tournaments of the year because most of the time (unless it's at St. Andrews) the trophy is really up for grabs. Anything can happen in this championship because of the severity of the courses, the different approach to playing the game, and the great equalizer...mother nature. Carnoustie, where they are playing this week, was home to one of the biggest choke jobs in major championship history. With a 3 shot lead, Jean van de Velde came to the 18th hole ready to win his first major. His drive went about 30 yards right, he then hit a 2 iron that bounced off of the grandstands and into deep rough. Then he tried to cross the water and hit it straight and almost tried to hit it out of the water. Then he proceeded to hit it into a bunker and eventually lose in a playoff. This has been called the most difficult of all the Open Championship courses, and lets just say that the best player in the world was eaten up by this course 8 years ago. Ok so he's unstoppable, and probably will win...is there any reason why he shouldn't?? Mickleson choked in the Scottish Open last week when he bogeyed the last hole with a drive to the right, then lost in a playoff when he hit a wild drive to the left....oh Phil.... So other than the newest Dad on tour, here are some names to watch out for: Jim Furyk: Hits the ball straight and deserves to be an Open Champion. KJ Choi: Is on fire this year, and has turned into an emotion-less solid player. Justin Rose: Ready to take the next step and win a major. Ian Poulter: Just because of his pants, and if his putter gets hot he can go low. Henrik Stenson: One of the best European players that no one knows about. Darren Clarke: Would be a great story after his wifes passing last year...could ride the emotion of the crowd to a victory. Whoever wins this week will undoubtebly deserve it...with this course combined with some nasty weather...things could get very intersting and scores could be very high!!! And on a side note...now that Victoria Beckham is in town...is Elin Woods now the 2nd hottest sports wife????? Interesting...very interesting....

(ROC) with Tigers new arms and new baby girl, look to see him storm from behind...

I think that Sergio is going to put Van de Velde's ghost to rest and melt like a snow cone on the Sun come Sunday.

Tiger is in good position after the first day. Garcia is rocking though. He is definitely in the zone. No one will know who will win until late Sunday afternoon.
