Thoughts on Miguel Cabrera

Here is the deal. I get to keep 3 offensive players, 1 IF, 1 OF and 1 anything. I have Jose Reyes, Miguel Tejada, Jason Bay and Miggy. My thinking going back to last year is that getting Cabrera in the 3rd round was the biggest steal ever and he is untouchable because he is going to be Manny Ramirez. However, the more I look at it, the more I am concerned that his numbers are going to take a tremendous hit this year because of how bad Florida is going to be. Should I look to trade Cabrera or despite the putrid lineup around him, is he still going to put up amazing numbers? thoughts?

Even though his numbers might drop off slightly, he is still super young and will be awesome for many years...do you have a limit on how many years you can keep a player?

Get rid of him; he plays 20 games against the Mets outstanding pitching staff!..that's already an 0-79, with no rbis and 1 run (he'll probably score on a kaz error) in his stat column.

I don't see how Miggy is better than Bay. Bay is ranked higher in every listing I have seen, puts up the same power numbers as Miggy and adds to that 25-30 SBs.

There is no time limit for how long you can keep players

Bay is pretty old. Miggy has higher potential, one of these seasons he is going to hit 40HRs. Plus, who knows if Bay is going to run again this year.

Bay stole 4 bases in 2004. Who knows what he will do in 2006.

He may see a drop but not by much. And he will only get better as the team around him improves. And you never know, he could be trade bait by mid season and end up somewhere like Chicago.

plus, Miggy's biggest concern in 2004 was the high number of Ks (148). He lowered his Ks to 125. The big thing to note is the increase in number of doubles. In 2004 he hit 31 doubles. In 2005, he hit 43 doubles (on top of 33 HRs). How many of those doubles will turn into HRs as he increases his strength and improves his overall skill?

Cabrera is 1 year from free agency. If you move him now you will be kicking yourself next year when he signs with a good team and is a top 5 pick. There are also reports the Marlins will move Cabrera and Willis before the trade deadline. I'd just take some reduced production this year, in exchange for the next 10 seasons. I think his career and talent parallels that of Vladimir Guerrero.

The Marlin's lineup won't be THAT bad. They're going to lose a lot of games because their pitchers are inexperienced, they'll make a lot of errors, and lose concentration often. I'd bet they score more runs than the Royals or the Nats. Cabrera would be better somewhere else, but he'll still be pretty f'in good.

My high school baseball team was better than the royals. The Marlins will be worse than the Nats. I can see them making something happen at the tail end of the season, but they are just a bunch of prospects playing ball right now. The only bonafide players they have are Willis and Miggy.

Just to clarify, I didn't say the Marlins would be BETTER than the Nats, but they might score more runs. They'll certainly allow more runs.

in my opinion, i think miggy is the best young hitter in the league, period! if he doesnt have any major injuries in his career he will definatly finish with a HALL-OF-FAME career. He should be on the boston red sox to be more noticed and to post incredible numbers. P.S. david wright is the most overated player in the league;I haaaaaaaaate him.
