Born on September 13, 1906 in Sonoma, California, Thornton Lee (Thornton Starr Lee) played for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and New York Giants over the course of his 16 year career. Lee broke into the bigs on September 19, 1933 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 5.04 ERA in 85.2 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Thornton Lee's best season was 1941, when he posted a 2.37 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 130 batters.
