Tom Carey (Thomas Joseph Carey) was born on March , 1846 in Brooklyn, New York. He made his Major League debut on May 4, 1871 for the Ft. Wayne Kekiongas. In 1872, his rookie year, he hit .291 with 2 home runs and 27 RBI. Carey played for the Ft. Wayne Kekiongas, Baltimore Canaries, New York Mutuals, Hartford Dark Blues, Providence Grays and Cleveland Spiders over the course of his 9 year career.

Most people believe that Tom Carey's best season was 1873, when he hit for a .334 average and knocked in 55 runs.
