Born on December 5, 1871 in Boston, Massachusetts, Tom Smith (Thomas Edward Smith) played for the Boston Beaneaters, Philadelphia Phillies, Louisville Colonels and St. Louis Perfectos over the course of his 4 year career. Smith broke into the bigs on June 6, 1894 with the Boston Beaneaters, and put up a 6.88 ERA in 68 innings pitched in 1895, his rookie year.
