This is what I like to call a Warm and Fuzzy Game

These don't come along very often. You know those games where it seems like everything goes right for your team? A couple of dazzling plays, an unexpected great performance, a quick game? You feel awesome afterwards. This was one of those games for the Boston Red Sox. A Warm and Fuzzy Game.

First of all, the eighth inning just finished. Kason Gabbard just walked off the mound. Yes, you heard me correctly. Kason Gabbard and eight innings, directly associated with one another. A wonderful concept. Eight shutout innings, two hits, one walk, 6 strikeouts. And he's still in the dugout, 93 pitches. There is exactly one complete game for the Red Sox this season, by Dice-K. Gabbard just might have the other one.

Second of all, everyone's been in a tizzy about Manny and Ortiz's power numbers. Both of them went deep tonight. A great, great sign.

Third of all, Dustin Pedroia making some sparkling defensive plays in the field. And a homerun. He has firmly established himself as a Major Leaguer, and no one is thinking about Mark Loretta anymore.

Fourth of all, it's 4-0.

Fifth of all, they're playing Kansas City.

I don't care what anyone says. I'm not taking this with a grain of salt. This team is so schizophrenic, I'm going to cherish every game like this. I feel warm and fuzzy, and no one is going to take that away from me. Until tomorrow night.

Gabbard with his first career complete game shutout...Yikes. And Curt Schilling said he felt great after throwing 55 pitches today. Good things to come. I hope.

I lied, they had two complete games before this one, Schilling's one hitter was the other one.

This is great. I was wrong! I wrote earlier today complaining that Gabbard doesn't go deep into games. As a pessimist, I enjoy being wrong more than anything else.

I'm so glad that Gabbard threw a shutout for the Red Sox. It's good to know that since Lester is still gone, as well as Schilling, Francona is depending more on the younger players to win ballgames. I honestly didn't think Gabbard had it in him to pitch this well overall, never mind pitch a complete game shutout. Pedroia, Manny, and Big Papi showed off their power with the bat, and it seems like Ortiz is getting his stroke back when it comes to home runs. Way to go guys! Keep it up

Can I just say that Pedroia's homerun swing is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen? It's almost like Andruw Jones when he nearly falls over!

Also, believe it or not, this is a pretty big win for the Sawx because, as of late, the Red Sox have had trouble beating the Royals, and in the past month or so, the Royals have played just as well as the Red Sox.

Playing Kansas City almost shouldn't count.

I just wish that the redsox can do this continuously, but having no players getting injured, we can't afford anyone getting hurt in the team.

In a few seasons, the Red Sox will have some sick homegrown talent lighting up the AL East. Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, Gabbard, Delcarmen, Lester, Bucholz, Ellsbury. We're good this year, will be even better in 2 years.

Exactly. I love the fact that we're depending more on our young talent. Terry Francona is trusting them, and I trust Terry Francona. He's really relying more on his young talent, and I respect him for using his young talent, cuz it's really helping us win ballgames. Youkilis is having a really great year. He will be good for years to come. So will Papelbon. Like you said Rawbeezeitz, once these guys gain some experience, they will be good and will be talked about for years to come...

Like I wrote in my post today the Red Sox can win 91 games this season if they only win half their games the rest of the way. And like Meg wrote Ortiz and Ramirez are starting to hit home runs again and that will make it even harder for Yankees to catch up with them.

Yes, it's so exciting to see that Ortiz and Manny have finally gotten their swing back, and with such young talent, and with Schilling coming back and looking great, it will definitely be hard for the Yanks to catch up. BUT, they have been playing .500 ball for a while now. They're playing .609 ball right now, but they played .630s ball from opening day until last month, didn't they? It still isn't over, and they gotta maintain that lead...

Sometimes it seems like Yankees try to lull the Red Sox into thinking they are out of race then all of a sudden they get hot and start winning. If Red Sox can play even .550 ball the rest of the way they will win going away.

oh, I am still thinking about Loretta, he should be a second. BECAUSE pedey should be at SS, his natural position.. and lugo should be in AAA, for another ball club. not the sox.

Just because he played short in college doesn't mean that's his "natural position." He's been a damn good 2B as far as I'm concerned. Lugo is, dare I say it, getting lukewarm, and Cora can play either position. Plus, there's a good talent at SS in AA named Jed Lowrie. I'm just waiting for some consistency at SS. That's all I want. It drives me crazy, because Orlando Cabrera should be playing SS for this team right now. Not Renteria, not Gonzalez, not Lugo, Cabrera. God I miss him.

This was the first complete game for a Sox farm product in a Sox uniform (excluding Hansack's abbreviated CG last year) since Aaron Sele in 1997. It was the first CG shutout by a Sox product in Sox uniform since Roger Clemens in 1996.
